Galambila, Bullinah and Awabakal Aboriginal Health Services are partnering to deliver Tackling Indigenous Smoking activities for the Aboriginal communities along the central, mid, and north coasts of NSW.

Galambila serves the Aboriginal communities of Coffs Harbour, Urunga, Bellingen, Woolgoolga and provides outreach services at Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre.  We also collaborate in service delivery across in the broader region with other communities.

Bullinah Aboriginal Health Service Limited (BAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) providing primary healthcare to the Goori people in and around Ballina since 2008. In addition to its main two health clinics in Ballina, and outreach clinic that services Cabbage Tree Island community

Awabakal’s Medical Service is an Aboriginal community-controlled health service, which aims to deliver culturally appropriate primary health care services, advocacy and social and emotional support to Aboriginal people and their families in our community. Services include treatment of acute illnesses, chronic condition management, quitting smoking as well as a range of community programs and activities.

Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program staff will be employed across the three partner organisations, working together collaboratively across the region.  The program will deliver a variety of community focussed activities supporting communities with engagement and education, smoking impacts in the home and workplace, and targeting vulnerable groups, in order to bring about a reduction in smoking prevalence to reduce rates of chronic disease and continue to improve the life expectancy of the community.

 

About the role

This is a new role that ideally is located in Coffs Harbour, however home location may be negotiated at either Newcastle or Ballina.  The role will manage a small team of workers that are geographically distributed and use collaborative technologies and systems to monitor performance and reporting.

In this role you will have the opportunity to develop and build partnerships with communities from Tweed Heads down to the Central Coast.  You will implement health promotion activities focussing on addressing smoking and vaping rates across our communities.

The focus for activities will be on population health that are locally informed and targeted.  You will have the opportunity to develop and implement social media and other marketing activities ensuring that promotional activities are relevant to differing community needs.

Benefits and Perks

A competitive salary package between $110,000 and $120,000 and the ability to salary sacrifice up to $31,177 as a PBI organisation.

Ideally this role will be located in Coffs Harbour, however home location may be negotiated at either Newcastle or Ballina.

  • Additional 5 days sick leave per year;
  • Additional leave for NAIDOC and Christmas is also available; and
  • Flexible working hours with monthly Rostered Days Off.

Communication Written and Verbal: Writes accurate, succinct reports and documents for CEO’, funding bodies and key stakeholders, and provides considered responses and clear messages to inspire trust and confidence of others.

Program Development: Manages programs and complex programs to work to timelines, budget and achieve goals and objectives. Envisions and designs new programs and establishes targets.

Service Delivery: Knowledge of community issues, maintains high level awareness of community issues as impacted by social determinants of health.

Technology: Utilises new technologies and systems to strengthen organisational effectiveness and improve team performance.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service
  2. Experience in leading or line managing a team

Licence

  1. Current ‘C’ Class driver’s licence is mandatory for this role.

 Qualifications

There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however the following qualifications are highly regarded:

  • Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion or equivalent; or
  • Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Health Promotions
